The Mad Ones Lab
|
Randi was invited to participate in The Mad Ones Lab as a director. The Lab facilitates collaboration with folks around the globe to form teams, who each created a digital short adaptation of an assigned section of The Mad Ones. Randi directed a watercolor animation version of the song Moving on, with vocals by Renan Teodoro, Alexandra Desuze, Jenna Kuerzi, and Sidney Houck. Sound design and film editing by Damien Figueras. The Lab culminated in a digital showcase, launching November 8th, in which audiences can watch the full musical, with each section of the show having been created by a different team. This showcase platform is The Mad Ones Engine, and is available for viewing at engine.themadonesmusical.com
The Mad Ones' story of two girls in a car overcoming their grief has inspired a bestselling cast album, thousands of performance videos, viral fan-art, and over 20 million views. www.themadonesmusical.com |
The Buried Life
Text & Stories by The Ensemble & Matthew Arnold
Arrangements by Damien Figueras
"But often, in the world's most crowded streets,
But often, in the din of strife, There rises an unspeakable desire After the knowledge of our buried life;........” The Buried Life was Randi's directorial return to Fringe! This immersive storytelling piece is a cabaret//gathering//soiree that adapts a poem by the same name for the stage. Inspired by The Life and Death Brigade, seven wayfaring friends hold an annual gathering to uncover their shared time capsule, take stock, and bury a piece of wisdom for their future selves. |

Now We Are Six
directed & conceived by Randi Alexis Hickey
book & score by The Ensemble & Damien Figueras
|
An ensemble of six actors create an original, stage adaptation of A.A. Milne's When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. The piece explores the complexities and joys of growing [up]- whether we be six or eighty six. Six friends make their annual trip to Galleon's Lap to reconnect to the truest parts of themselves through a collection of songs, stories, and dances.
"Sitting there they could see the whole world spread out until it reached the sky, and whatever there was all the world over was with them at the Enchanted place on the very top of the Forest." |
Lilith and Her Demons music & lyrics by Sarah Hough, with text & stories by the ensemble
In this modern-folk song cycle we meet the mythological she-demon, Lilith, as a rather ordinary young woman in Newark, NJ. She's on the run, healing from betrayal and heartbreak, searching the world and herself for a sense of power and freedom. An ensemble of seven asks the question, how many lifetimes do we have to live before we get to see our redemption story through? Lilith and Her Demons is still in development with Apartment 20. Randi directed the most recent iteration as a song cycle on film in the 2021 Polyphone Festival for New and Emerging Musicals. |

No Butter Left Behind
by Harry Slack
|
Some of the most exciting work Randi does is on 24 hour plays. She has been collaborating with Chalkboard Theatre Project since 2014, as both director and performer, to create brand new ten minute plays. The CTP process focuses on creating a piece that could only be created in the designated 24 hours, with your assigned team members. No Butter Left behind was a solo clown piece that I directed and devised with actor Andrew Hutmire and writer Harry Slack. It explores the absurdities we encounter in everyday life when simply asking strangers for help.
21 artists. 24 hours. 5 world premiere plays. |
